FLTP Portfolio Intensive | Saturday, April 5th AND 12th, 2014

The Foreign Language Technology Program's Portfolio Intensives are coming up! The portfolio intensive is designed to help CU language faculty, instructors and TAs complete the last steps of their FLTP teaching with technology portfolio. To view past FLTP portfolios, visit http://altec.colorado.edu/fltp/portfolio_showcase.shtml

If you have attended 4+ FLTP workshops you are invited to attend the Portfolio Intensive! We do ask that you attend both Saturdays or if you can only make one, that you select the first. We cover unique information on the first day that will not be repeated the second Saturday. And please plan to stay the entire day. Contact us if you have any questions or hesitations! You will receive one FLTP workshop credit for each Saturday you attend. Also, please note that this is not a required step of the FLTP. You are more than welcome to complete your professional portfolio on your own.

Improving Listening Comprehension with Technology | March 12th OR 13th, 2014

Next week is the fourth workshop of the semester for the FLTP, "Improving Listening Comprehension with Technology". ALTEC's Director Dr. Mark Knowles will lead this workshop.

Second language teachers are very good at testing listening comprehension, but how good are we at teaching it? If asked to describe the listening comprehension process and then how best to teach listening, how well would we do? Since listening comprehension is one of the skills our students report feeling most apprehensive about, greater attention to this skill is a long time in coming. In this workshop we will look at some of the gaps that researchers Larry Vangergrift and Christine Goh are helping to fill and we will see how learners can activate processes of skilled listeners. The workshop will also focus on practical and successful ideas for listening tasks that use technology.
