Fall 2013 FLTP Workshops | FLTP Department Open Houses

Welcome back!
We hope that everyone had a relaxing summer and is refreshed and ready for the semester.

ALTEC has just released the workshop schedule for our fall 2013 Foreign Language Technology Program.

To get the semester rolling, we will be offering FLTP Open Houses for each language department here at CU. These department-specific open houses will count for the required "Introduction to the FLTP" workshop. Please click on the flyer for your department's day and time.

The presentation for the FLTP Open House is available here.

Desire2Learn will be the topic of our second workshop this semester. On Wednesday, September 18th (10am-12pm) or Thursday, September 19th (3pm-5pm) the attendees will decide which Desire2Learn functionalities they would like to learn.

Please register for the workshops ahead of time and mark them in your calendar! Consult ALTEC's webpage for the rest of the fall offerings: http://altec.colorado.edu/

And if you have friends or colleagues in the K12 community, please pass along the word about Edwige's K12 FLTP Saturday workshops. We will be offering this program for the second time this academic year.

The FLTmag

In case if anyone is wondering what Edwige has been working on this summer...

From Edwige:
After several months of hard work with a team of truly dedicated people, we are proud to unveil the first issue of the Foreign Language Technology Magazine (FLTmag), which can be found at http://fltmag.com/.

You may wonder why we decided to add this rather ambitious project to our (long) list of things to do. That would be a fair question. The field of language technology is booming and we have talented people doing amazing things all over the world. While we have excellent publishing venues in the CALICO and IALLT journals for example, we felt that there was a need for a more practice-oriented publication that would offer information about what language technologists and language centers at the K-20 level are up to these days. Conferences offer great opportunities to network and brainstorm, but for lack of funding, not all of us get a chance to be a part of this conversation. So, we thought of a magazine, something a bit more casual in its tone and practical in its content than its scholarly counterparts, while still rigorous in the quality of the information it offers.

Thank you for reading us. We’re looking forward to the conversations this magazine will bring about!
