Improving Listening Comprehension with Technology | March 12th OR 13th, 2014

Next week is the fourth workshop of the semester for the FLTP, "Improving Listening Comprehension with Technology". ALTEC's Director Dr. Mark Knowles will lead this workshop.

Second language teachers are very good at testing listening comprehension, but how good are we at teaching it? If asked to describe the listening comprehension process and then how best to teach listening, how well would we do? Since listening comprehension is one of the skills our students report feeling most apprehensive about, greater attention to this skill is a long time in coming. In this workshop we will look at some of the gaps that researchers Larry Vangergrift and Christine Goh are helping to fill and we will see how learners can activate processes of skilled listeners. The workshop will also focus on practical and successful ideas for listening tasks that use technology.
